Big Papi

I was lisining to WEEI today and they were talking about David Ortiz and the steriod scandel that is going on. I guess Ortiz will making a statment this weekend about his use of steriods. Lou Maloney was talking about how he really feels that Ortiz didnt know that he was useing steriods and that it was just a supplement that contained them. This means that he thinks that Ortiz never accually put a needle into his body and this is what is making this scandel so contraversal. When the results come out and says weather or not Ortiz used a needle and anabolic steriods, this will either make or break Ortiz. If the results come back and Ortiz was just useing a supplement he can actually say that he didnt know what he was usinng. I honestly beleive that Ortiz knew exactly what he was putting in his body. But I really dont blame him at all because it was the steriod era and every one else was using it. I probably would have done the same thing if i was a professional baseball player because it is your job and the only way you get paid is to put of big numbers and the ability to stay on the feild.

  1. You know, after this came out about David Ortiz being on this steroids list my boyfriend said he was really close to not watching MLB baseball anymore; or any baseball for that matter. He has grown up loving baseball and had all these sports heroes from the old Red Sox players and the men that were playing as we grew up in the 90's. I think it's a shame that kids really have no sports heroes anymore...

I was not surprised to hear this about Big Papi because, as you said, it's the era of steroids and you get to a certain point where you feel like you just can't compete if you don't take them. It's probably true too. But where do you begin to say, this has to stop? I feel as though I'm constantly waiting for the next sports player scandal to break. The games are being ruined, and yet these men continue to make UNREASONABLE amounts of money. I hope that this system is revamped someday so that they joy of sports can be rekindled for new generations.

  2. Regardless of what Ortiz says, if he was on them or not.. the tests were suppost to be anonymous. So who ever is getting a hold of these results with the names of which players were actually taking the steroids I think will be backfired on them. Ortiz use to be one of my favorite players back when he was actually making more hits on the field, probably because he was steroids, but who knows. I still like the red sox and I think what Manny did to the red sox looks worse than Ortiz--I mean hes been clean ever since.
